One of the numbered breeding families from Greg Miller's cooperative program in Ohio, and the least widely planted of the B-series. Still under evaluation here.
DETAILED:
B-68 is one of the twenty-three families in Greg Miller's cooperative chestnut breeding program. With around 130 trees planted nationwide it is the scarcest of the B-series, which makes our block a meaningful share of what exists anywhere.
The B-series carries no published description. These are working codes from a breeding program rather than named cultivars, and the trees are in the ground precisely so that growers across fifteen states can find out how they perform in different soils and climates.
One related selection gives a hint of the background. Miller's B-99 came from a Korean chestnut and was chosen for fast growth, a straight trunk, and survival in wet ground that killed the trees around it. If the rest of the series shares that heritage, these may lean toward timber form rather than nut production.
